Winter Activities in Beitostølen

Beitostølen has distinguished itself as a cross-country skiing destination due to the early season opening and a large trail network with 180 kilometers of groomed cross-country trails.

Our cross-country trails run through the whole of Beitostølen and the surrounding area. On most of our units, it is possible to start your cross-country skiing experience right outside the door! Otherwise, you can also take the chair lift up and start from there. Click here to see the map of our cross-country trails.

Along some of the trails there are "varmestuer", small heated houses, some of which are serviced. Here you have the possibility to warm yourself, drink some hot chocolate and relax for a bit. One of them is called Olebu. 

There are two skiing regions in close proximity to Beitostølen. In the centre of Beitostølen you'll find a beginner-friendly slope with several ski lifts (pictured above).

If you want to try something more difficult, you can take the shuttle bus to the Raudalen Alpine Center. Raudalen is located 6km from Beitostølen, and it offers challenging red and black slopes and off-piste skiing.

The shuttle bus is free of charge if you've purchased a ski lift pass. Ski lift passes are acquired in the city centre, behind the restaurant Lodge 900.

Go on a guided alpine touring trip with Beito Aktiv and experience the breathtaking nature in Jotunheimen National Park up close. Beito Aktiv will teach you the basics of randonee with one of their professional guides, including avalanche awareness, safety in the backcountry and off-piste ski techniques.

In and around Beitostølen we have several great restaurants, bars and cafés. Since the mountain village is a popular holiday destination, most employees are able to speak English and you'll have no issue communicating your wishes anywhere you go.

Our talented and kind retailers at Sport1 and Intersport Beitostølen will help you find the right equipment for your winter-adventures. If it is specific gloves for cross-country skiing or other clothing for e.g. tough weather conditions, they will be able to help you out.

Their shops are located in the center of Beitostølen and in the mall next to the gas station. 

Are you missing a critical piece of equipment or did you forget something at home? No reason to worry! Beitostølen Rental is here for you - located in the center of Beitostølen, close to the supermarket Spar. 

They have all kinds of equipment you can rent: from single pieces to full sets for alpine, cross-country, randonee and snowboarding-adventures. They also rent out sledges, snow shoes and child carriers.

The national season opener Beitosprinten brings together the best Norwegian and foreign cross-country skiing elite here at Beitostølen every year.

For many years, Beitostølen has been the proud host of the national season opener for cross-country skiing, Beitosprinten. Here, there is speed, excitement and life on the slopes when famous cross-country skiers start the season. This is a festival for all skiing enthusiasts!

Beitosprinten is from the 14th until the 17th of November in 2024.

On the first weekend in December (9.-11.12.) the World Cup 2022 partly took place in Beitostølen. 

It was a collaborative project between Lillehammer and Beitostølen with the goal for this to be an environmentally and sustainable event in the same area that limits the overall travel burden for all athletes.
